Why should you join the MDAAP?

    ADVOCATE FOR CHILDREN

The MDAAP is the voice of children in the Maryland General Assembly. The MDAAP will keep you informed about legislation affecting your patients – and with your help, we can bring expertise needed to move legislation forward. In 2022, the MDAAP supported legislation that would:

    • 9-8-8 Trust Fund to maintain a national suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline
    • Maryland Medical Assistance Program to provide comprehensive dental care for all
    • Newborn screening program testing as listed by HSS Recommended Uniform Screening Program
    • Seizure recognition and response programs in schools
    • Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program in the Maryland Department of Labor
    • Early intervention via Maryland Infants and Toddlers Program
    • Food supplement benefits for adolescents enrolled in institution of higher education
    • Elevated blood lead levels – initiation of case management, environmental investigation, and risk reduction
    ADVOCATE FOR YOUR PROFESSION

The MDAAP is your voice at the table in the Maryland Department of Health, Maryland General Assembly, and other advisory boards. In addition, our MDAAP Pediatric Council assists with issues of access to care, quality of care, and physician payment. The MDAAP has recently tackled these issues:

    • Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC) issues related to pediatric inpatient services and integration of pediatric care in the community
    • Maternal and Child Health Task force to help HSCRC create policies that will incentivize prevention of and early intervention for pediatric illness and community-based models of care
